Esham, born Esham Attica Smith on September 20, 1973, in Long Island, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan, is a pioneering figure in the world of hip-hop, known for his significant contributions to the horrorcore subgenre. His music is characterized by dark, surrealistic themes, often exploring complex and controversial subjects.

Esham’s journey in the music industry began at a remarkably young age. He released his debut album, “Boomin’ Words From Hell,” in 1989 when he was just 16 years old. This album quickly established him as an innovative force in the hip-hop scene, with its unique blend of horror-themed lyrics and gritty, experimental beats.

Esham’s style, often referred to as “acid rap,” is a fusion of hardcore hip-hop, rock, and psychedelic music, setting him apart from his contemporaries. His lyrical content frequently delves into topics like death, substance abuse, mental illness, and the supernatural, challenging the boundaries of traditional hip-hop narratives.
