C.P.O.’s single ‘This Beat Is Funky,’ released under Capitol Records in 1990, is a striking embodiment of the early ’90s hip-hop scene in the United States. This 12″, 33 ⅓ RPM vinyl single, crafted in the US, showcases the group’s distinctive style, blending classic hip-hop elements with their unique sound.

The single features several versions of the title track ‘This Beat Is Funky.’ The ‘Mo Better Funky Remix,’ composed by Lil’ Nation and M.C. Ren, runs for 5:41 minutes and stands out with its intricate arrangement featuring Ron Krasinski on drums, The Martin Brothers with their horn contributions, and L.A. Dre on the organ. The remix was produced by M.C. Ren, known as “The Ruthless Villain.” This version elevates the track with an enriched sound, adding depth and complexity to the original composition.

Another notable version is the ‘Video Mix,’ a 3:15-minute rendition co-produced by “The Incredible Young D,” and composed by a team including D. Reeves, J. Spicer, L. Smith, Lil’ Nation, and R. Simmons, with M.C. Ren as the main producer. This mix provides a more streamlined experience, optimized for video presentations.

The B-side of the single features ‘The Movement,’ with both a remix and an LP version. Composed by Lil’ Nation, M.C. Ren, and Young D, and produced by M.C.
