Description

D-Loc’s ‘Split Personality,’ released in 1990 by Big League Records, Inc., stands out as a seminal work in the hip-hop genre. This CD album, produced in the United States, encapsulates the diverse styles and sounds of early 90s hip-hop.

The album opens with ‘Get Loc’d Out,’ a track that sets a strong tone for the album with its 4:15 duration, followed by ‘You Gotta Have Soul,’ which adds a soulful 3:48-minute twist to the album’s narrative. ‘I Wanna Be With You’ and ‘Regina The Teaser,’ each running over 4 minutes, continue to showcase D-Loc’s versatility as an artist.

‘Groupie O Chick’ and ‘World Wide MC’ further display D-Loc’s lyrical prowess, with each track offering a unique perspective on the hip-hop lifestyle and culture. ‘Be A Friend To The End,’ the longest track on the album at 5:27, dives into themes of loyalty and friendship.

The album then picks up the pace with ‘The Party’s On,’ a 3:50-minute track that brings a vibrant and energetic vibe. This is followed by ‘Summer Madness (Prelude),’ a shorter 1:22 interlude that sets the stage for the subsequent tracks.

‘Ace In The Hole’ and ‘They Don’t Want None,’ the latter written by Lady Ace, maintain the album’s dynamic energy. The album concludes with ‘We Can Do This,’ a 4:28 track that encapsulates the spirit and determination inherent in D-Loc’s music.

The album was manufactured by Technetronics, Inc., and features a blend of co-producers, including Darrin “Digital-D” Harris, Daryl “D.J. Daryl” Anderson, and Kirk “Kickin’ Kirk” Crumpler. Engineering was handled by Darrin Harris, with additional engineering and mixing by Steve Counter. The executive producer of the album was Darrell A. Jackson, and it was mastered by Brian Gardner. The primary producer of ‘Split Personality’ was J.E.D., with Richie Rich contributing as a writer to most tracks.

‘Split Personality’ is not just a collection of songs but a representation of D-Loc’s multifaceted approach to music, combining storytelling, rhythm, and a unique lyrical style to create an album that resonates with the early ’90s hip-hop scene.
